  1. Hiya! Greetings from EMC to all our dear fellow friends!!
  2.
  3. At here, we would like to share with everyone the summarized content of our previous Teh-Tarik-Session on the topic of "Is a Highly Competitive Society Good or Bad?".
  4.      First of all, let us define what is meant by "competition". According to majority of the sources, at the basic ecological sense, it is an interaction between populations in which birth, growth and death depend upon gaining a share of limited environmental resources. It happens when two or more parties have a same goal which cannot be shared, where one's gain is the other's loss.
  5.      Now, let us look back at our topic. An intense competition level can be viewed as a good or a bad thing, depending on from whose point of view you are looking from. Generally, nobody likes competition, who would want to have an intense competition with others for the limited resources in this world? Be it clean air, land, water, power or money. Everyone wants to be in a dominant position and be looked up to by the others. Since that it is not that easy for every individuals to achieve their goals, they started to share their goals with one another. With the same goal, cooperation is born. Rather than competing against everyone, groups are formed in order to reduce the competitiveness whereby everyone in the same group will work together in order to achieve their goals.
  6.      From other points of view, such as the development of society as a whole, which includes technological advancement, it is certainly not a bad thing. With competition, we have to become more creative and innovative as the environment forces us to do so. It promotes greater efficiency, productivity, economic growth and development. With an intense competition, we can buy goods and services at a lower costs and at a better quality, with more choices and varieties.
  7.      The main idea is that competition is a natural phenomenon which exist in every ecosystems. Competition level increase as population increase, there is no way for us to completely avoid it. As such, let us understand it well and make use of it. We must learn to live with it. Competition is divided into 2 different types, namely unhealthy competition and healthy competition.
  8.      An unhealthy competition is when people adopt the "I have to be better than everyone else" mindset. This normally would create problems for that individual itself, causing more harm than benefit. Such as sports competition which is supposed to be fun while promoting good health turns out into promoting hostility among the athletes.
  9.      A healthy competition is when you being the best that you can be. It is when you are competing to improve yourself and being content with who you are since everyone is unique, possessing different skills and strengths.
  10.      To sum everything up, we must first understand ourselves and know what we want and need in our life so that we don't ever go into an unnecessarily unhealthy competition with the society. As starters, we should try setting up goals and targets relevant to our life.
  11. We sincerely hope that our delivery will help you to gain an insight in your life.
  12. Thank you for reading through and have a nice day!
